Roof Rat
Roof Rats are easily identified by their tail, which is longer than the body. The Tail measures 7-10 inches in length, and the Roof Rat weighs in at 5-12oz. Roof Rats have smooth fur, a pointed snout, large eyes, large hairless ears, and are excellent climbers (hence the name). They are often found in attics and taking harborage inside residential homes and businesses. Compared to their close cousin the Norway Rat, the Roof Rat is the acrobat of the rodent family. They are lightly built compared to the Norway Rat. They have a longer tail and are sleeker and nimbler in appearance. The female Roof Rat can give birth to 5-8 babies per litter, and typically can have 3-4 litters a year. With the capability of producing up to 13 offspring in a year you can see how a rodent issue turns into an infestation quickly. As many probably know, rats are not known for their cleanliness. They can spread disease with their urine and droppings; cause damage to the exterior of homes, buildings, furniture, wiring, pipes and contaminate your food and quickly become overwhelming.
