Norway Rat
We went over the Roof Rat; now let’s meet his big brother, the Norway Rat. Although shorter in length, coming in at only 7-9 inches at the body and 6-8 inches at the tail, the Norway Rat is the bulkier, bulldozer cousin to the Roof Rat weighing in at 7-20oz. Noticeably different by its heavy body, blunt snout, small ears, small eyes, shaggy fur, brown in color, and with a hairless scaly tail. The Norway Rat typically produces 8-10 babies in a litter and 4-6 litters a year. If conditions are optimal and a female Norway Rat is in good health, she can produce 15-16 babies in each litter! That number can add up quickly if this issue is left unchecked. The Norway Rat isn’t biased about food and will almost eat anything, but prefers meats, fish, nuts and some types of fruit. We recommend giving us a call, a professional is needed in remedying any infestation with this rodent.
