This cockroach has a pale figure eight on the back of its head. Commonly confused with its Southern tropical cousin the Australian Cockroach which has a yellowish (Batman) symbol behind its head. The American cockroach are oval in shape. The adult has fully functioning wings, can fly in short distances and is considered one of the largest cockroaches. As most cockroaches, the American cockroach does pose health hazards to humans, contaminating food and are difficult to get rid of.
