Snake
Georgia is home to a variety of snakes. Of the 46 species known to Georgia, there are only 6 that are venomous to look out for. They are the Copperhead, Cottonmouth, Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, Eastern Coral Snake, Pygmy Rattlesnake, and the Timber/Canebrake Rattlesnake. Most snakes only attack when provoked and most bites happen by accident. Although mostly non-fatal, the venom from these snakes can cause ongoing health complications. A good rule of thumb is if you are bitten by a snake, contact emergency services immediately. It can often be extremely difficult to tell if the snake that bit you is venomous or not. Some non-venomous snakes even mimic venomous snakes as a defense mechanism towards predators, such as the Bull Snake, which mimics the Rattlesnake by vibrating its tail as if it has a rattler. If you have identified a venomous snake in your home or on your property, call a professional immediately and do not try and handle on your own.
